The teddy bear was an item in Earthbound you could buy. It would follow you around and take certain damage for you from enemies for around 200 health points. I think it would be an awesome addition as an item, because it's a unique concept.
The first blog on the internet dedicated to Smash Bros. 4 for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. I will post everything about all the possible candidates of Smash Bros. characters, items, stages, trophies, and ideas.

Assist Trophy: Ivan
Ivan should be the final of the three assist trophies to appear in Smash Bros. 4. He could use his Earth PSI or his staff to attack enemies.

Trophy and Sticker: Balloon Fight Enemy
The only enemy in Balloon Fight that you can defeat. It is important enough in my opinion to be both a trophy and a sticker.

Sticker: Marcus McCloud
The son of the greatest mammal in all of Corneria, Marcus has never been seen in action, but should get a little bit of recognition. I'd say a sticker would do the trick.

Captain Falcon
First Appearance
F-Zero
Super Nintendo
1991
The greatest pilot from video games will be a sure thing. However, I think it's more important that he sees an appearance before the next Smash Bros. game. I absolutely hate all racing games, and even I enjoy playing some F-Zero. Sure, a lot of people prefer Mario Kart, but there's plenty of people who still prefer F-Zero. The characters are cooler and more adult-like, the plot's way better, and overall it feels much cooler racing in a futuristic spaceship than a beat up comical go-kart. If Nintendo fails to release an F-Zero game for the Wii U and 3DS, they're going to lose a huge fanbase who will most likely just go for the Playstation or XBox racing games. After all, both consoles have WAY better graphics than Nintendo. It would be stupid not to release an F-Zero game for Nintendo, primarily because everyone loves anything with Captain Falcon in it just so they can all scream "Falcon PUNCH".
I don't think a single thing should change for the Captain. He's got a perfect and fun moveset. The only thing new Falcon-related to hope for is him losing his clone, Ganondorf along with gaining a new character or two from the series.
